Auburn University

Auburn University is a public institution with almost 25,000 students. In addition to its variety of degree programs, it’s partnered directly with the National Academy of Sports Medicine to develop a class specifically created for students looking to get their NASM certificate. The course is an elective, meaning that any student at Auburn is eligible for enrollment. While a Kinesiology isn’t required, having one will provide valuable information and context to the NASM class.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is an independent campus from the University of Alabama. With over 20,000 students and over 50 years of history, it has established itself as one of the top schools in Alabama

UAB’s Department of University Recreation is part of the Student Affairs department. The department worked with the NASM to create a course that is open to both students and non-students. Spanning over 2 months and certification prep included, this is the perfect program for anyone not looking for a 4-year degree.

Faulkner University

Faulkner University is a private Christian university in Montgomery, Alabama. With a student population of just over 2,000 students, you can look forward to smaller class sizes. Faulkner’s Department of Physical Education and Sports Management offers several degree options and electives.

Faulkner offers two courses that prepare students to sit for a NASM certificate exam. These NASM classes are taught by department faculty. The two courses have slightly different focuses. One is teaching students about instructing group classes while the other is for personal training techniques. Each course is designed to have students sit for the NASM exam upon completion, so students only need to take one of these electives.

Oakwood University

In northern Alabama, Oakwood University is a historically black Seventh-day Adventist college. The Department of Health and Human Services offers three different majors to students: Fitness and Wellness, Health and Physical Education Teaching, and Health Science.

Oakwood offers three different courses that all lead to a NASM certification. But what makes their program special is that each course offers specialization in a different focus of the available certifications. For example, a personal training course is available. But you can also take the other two courses for Corrective Exercise Specialist or Performance Enhancement Specialist credentialing.
